Social Games
From Who’s the Traitor to What’s wrong with You People
Social games are a popular form of gaming. Two of the most popular types of social games are social deduction and party games.
In social deduction games, players often take on hidden roles and try to identify the roles of other players. Typically a player or small team of players has a secret objective to achieve or betray the other players. The other players must try to deduce the role of their opponents based on the choices and actions they take. Bluffing, alliances, and backstabbing are a given in these games. Great examples would be Mafia, Werewolves of Millers Hollow, Resistance, and Love Letter.
Party games are meant to encourage social interaction, are simplistic in rules and setup, and are quick to play. They are generally light-hearted, and playable by large groups. A more recent trend is for adult-oriented, dark, and questionably inappropriate content. Some favorite games would be Telestrations, Cards Against Humanity, and Wits and Wagers.
